Prescot Cables handed goalkeeping headache after Mitch Allen decision
Prescot Cables are set to lose goalkeeper Mitch Allen
Prescot Cables are searching for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Mitch Allen.
The 25-year-old has been training with League Two side Chesterfield in recent weeks as the Spireites monitored the shot-stopper.
Allen played a small part in their behind closed doors friendly defeat against Huddersfield last weekend. But returned to Cables for their 4-1 friendly defeat to National League North outfit, Chorley.
Following the upheaval last month, Cables saw all their player contracts ripped up - with Allen among them. Although, he did return following the sensational comeback from manager Ste Daley.
Off The Park understands that Allen turned down a new contract under fresh terms, leaving the club in the process.
In a post, the goalkeeper said: “Good luck to the lads PrescotCablesFC loved my time at the club & made some great memories! This isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly or one that I wanted to make. Unfortunately being given an ultimatum, it’s apparent the only option is this. Let’s see what the future holds.”
It remains to be seen whether Chesterfield will move to sign the goalkeeper but he will be no short of offers.
It’s a crushing blow for Cables, who are ranked 100/1 to win the Northern Premier League, as they face a frantic dash to acquire a suitable replacement before the visit of Matlock Town on Saturday, August 10.
