City of Liverpool misery compounded as Bootle earn bragging rights in dominant win
Bootle picked up their first win under Alan Morgan as they took a step forward in avoiding relegation at already-relegated City of Liverpool’s expense.
Bootle took a huge step towards avoiding relegation with a comfortable 3-0 win over City of Liverpool.
The Purps’ season-long struggles were laid bare after suffering their 28th league defeat of the campaign.
A Sean Williams blockbuster helped Bootle on their way after Kenzie O’Neill’s volley cannoned in off Conor Robson after hitting the post.
Courtney Duffus wrapped up proceedings with a penalty late on to send Bootle five points clear of the bottom four.
The intent from Alan Morgan’s side was clear from the offset as the visitors were immediately put under pressure.
They found the breakthrough when O’Neill’s dipping volley hit the post but trickled home after deflecting off the City of Liverpool shot-stopper.
Williams twice went close with Robson denying him before an effort deflected wide but on the stroke of half-time, he got himself on the scoresheet.
The former Warrington Town midfielder expertly curled a free-kick around the wall past Robson.
The second-half was largely a non-event but Bootle taking their foot off the gas allowed the Purps to grow in confidence but they failed to register a shot in anger.
With two minutes of normal time remaining, Bootle were awarded the chance to add gloss on a commanding performance. Duffus stepped up and made no mistake, sending Robson the wrong way.
